Portenoy began with three family homes, each carrying a different history and a different kind of responsibility.
One had been carefully renovated room by room for more than a decade. Another had been completely rebuilt at the shore. The third had belonged to the family for forty years and was preparing for its next chapter.
Each home was meaningful. Each was also complicated. The knowledge behind them lived across family members, contractors, vendors, inboxes, invoices, photographs and memory.

WHAT WAS MISSING

Important homes do not need more information scattered across more tools. They need judgment, continuity and someone prepared to act. Portenoy was created to understand each home, coordinate its care and preserve its complete story over time.
A FAMILY NAME WITH A HISTORY
Portenoy takes its name from Norman S. Portenoy, the founder’s grandfather.
Norman enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1940 and became an aircraft commander in its Special Missions Squadron. His work placed him at moments that helped shape history, including missions connected to the Yalta and Potsdam Conferences.
In 1945, he landed the first Allied aircraft in Berlin for the signing of the ceasefire. Soon afterward, he piloted a C-54 Skymaster from Moscow to Washington carrying files that had to be protected from Stalin’s forces. The journey took 35 hours and 35 minutes and established a speed record that endured into the jet age.
His story is one of preparation, discretion and trusted execution when the details mattered. Portenoy carries that name forward in a new context: caring for the homes and histories entrusted to us.
